The first responsibility of our government is the security of every American. In this era of unprecedented and unpredictable challenge, we must be prepared for any threat.After September 11, Americans trusted President Bush to take the necessary steps to keep our country safe. Unfortunately, inadequate planning and incompetent policies have failed to make Americans as safe as we should be. The tragedy of Hurricane Katrina showed that the federal government is still not prepared to respond to a major crisis.
The best way to fight terrorism is to focus on those who have attacked us, on homeland security, and on keeping nuclear weapons out of the hands of terrorists. To better protect ourselves and prevent a terrorist attack we need a New Direction to:
America can't afford to lose focus on our security; it must be our number one priority.
